For the past week and a half, we have been creating ideas for our exhibition. We all came up with ideas and then were split into groups of people that had similar ideas. Then we started combining our ideas into one, in which we wrote out on paper and make a sort of blue-print of it. Then after some more refining, we came up with a perfect plan. We would have five rooms each dedicated to an agent of socialization. Family, school, religion, peers and media. We then put our ideas on a poster and asked for feedback, as well as on a forum online. After that we reviewed our feedback and reflected off of it like what we could do to make it better and what people thought we were doing well. Then all the groups put their posters up on the halls and people voted for who they thought had the best idea.
The problems this exhibition is trying to address is “What is socialization and how has it affected you?”. So we have thought about it a lot and we all have made masks representing what we thought socialization has done to us and how we see it.
Things that I am most excited about for this exhibition is how we are able to express our creativity and passion about our ideas. I think that the jobs I could be good at are marketing because I could use social media to advertise our idea plus where it would be and what time. I think I could be good at this because I am very savvy with social media like Instagram and Snapchat. My second choice would be location services because I think it would be interesting to figure out where this event could be held if it couldn’t be held at the school. If I had to choose one thought it would be the marketing one because I would enjoy it the most.
Some reflections I have with working with a group in this last couple weeks that would help me improve moving forward with my new group is learning how to corporate with other people and sharing ideas.
November 15, 2016: Blog #2
Things I would like to see happen for this project are for the people in the groups to start coming together like collaborating and sharing ideas. Like for example building something, we are building this huge house. We have to start with blueprints, then get materials, then start the actual building. I think at the end of this project we will all be happy with it and it will all have been worth it.
If a parent was going to say something about our project I think I would want it to be “This is really impressive, you must have worked really hard on this. I think that I definitely learned something from this.” This would show that we really did work hard on this and that the parents are proud of us. If a Sociology professor commented on our project I would want it to be “This is very accurate and a good way to show people what socialization is and how to understand it.” I would also want them to compliment our hard work.
I think to make sure that we are presenting accurate information we would need to double check our sources and ask some teachers if there was anything wrong. It’s important to provide correct information because when you teaching someone something they need to know the accurate information because that’s what’s going to stick to their brain the most.
November 16, 2016: Blog #3
The two terms I picked to use for my strengths are creative thinking and collaboration. I think that the definition to creative thinking is being about at thinking outside of the box and collaboration means talking to your group members and knowing what their say is in whatever you’re doing. I said I am good at creative thinking because when there is room for creativeness in projects I am able to think outside the box and come up with something new. I also said that I am good at being collaborative because I am able to keep up with everybody's thoughts and opinions. An example of when I have been collaborative is in this very project we are working on right now, all of our group members all got each other's phone numbers and make a group chat so we can easily be able to communicate with everyone. The other two terms I used for my weaknesses are being a leader and being a risk-taker. I think the definitions to being a leader is taking control and being able to effectively make the group come together and I think being risk taker means going out of your comfort zone and being able to try new things. I said I’m not good at being a leader because I have always felt that I am more of a quiet sort of follower person. I also said I’m not good at being a risk taker because I have always never had the sort of need/want to go outside of my comfort zone. An example of when I have been more of a follower than a leader is in most of the group projects I have been in at Animas high school.
