Step 1: Pick an approach to solving this issue that is similar to the approach you’d take for “making an impact” for senior project
My approach to solving this issue is going to be an art piece. I usually never do art-related pieces of projects but I wanted to do something that was visual and had a lot of meaning. An idea for this could be to find a way to put this up in an art gallery in Durango or maybe even a coffee shop.
Step 2: Research the approach a bit to understand important context/info.
Controversial Art pieces: Les demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), Pablo Picasso Almost 50 years later, Picasso's "Les demoiselles d'Avignon," which depicted prostitutes on display in a Barcelona brothel in his then-radical pre-Cubist style, was seen as outrageous and obscene for the same reasons. The idea of a woman brazenly showing off her sexuality in such a way was still unthinkable. "Female sexuality causes problems still today, surprisingly. It's just another side of sexist culture," says Kokoli.
Step 3: ANALYZE the approach
What are the strengths and limitations of this particular approach?
The strengths of this approach would be having a meaningful art piece that would convey a whole message through a painting. My idea would be that people could just look at my art piece and understand what my message is. The limitations of this approach would be displaying my project. If I could put it up in an art center or some sort of gallery/museum or maybe a coffee shop would be great, but if I couldn’t do that then putting it up in the school would be good too. Another limitation of this approach could be if people looked at my art piece and didn’t understand what it meant. I could also imagine the project not conveying the whole concept of cultural appropriation and only a part of it.
How might you apply aspects of this approach for your proposed solution?
I don’t know what I could do for a solution but I could use this art piece as a way of trying to help people understand what cultural appropriation even means and the damage it does.
